Teachers Suggest to Utilize Winter Vacation for Revision
Kelly Kislaya| TNN | Jan 1, 2016, 11.44 AM ISTRANCHI: With starting of winter vacations in every school, children are busy taking a break from studies and having some fun time. While this time of one week to 10 days is a good time to unwind oneself from the hectic daily schedule of school and tuitions, it is also a time for the students appearing for board examinations in March to catch up with the leftover work and give extra time for preparations of the examination.
Alka Verma, a school teacher said, "This 10 days' time is very crucial for the students appearing in board examination. It is in the hands of students to make the best use of it and spend as much time on preparations of boards as they can."
Verma said that as students do not have to worry about starting new chapters in class during this time, they can easily focus on revising the syllabus which has already been covered.
"There are times when a student misses some topics in the class but does not get time to cover it later on. They can use the time of winter vacation to catch up with such topics and spend time on practicing the topics they are weak in," said another senior teacher, Suchitra Singh.
The students are also planning to utilize the time wisely. Pratyusha Pandey, a student preparing for class 10 boards said, "I have already made a schedule. I am studying three hours in the day, two hours in afternoon and three hours again at night. This way I am able to give enough time to study and still get time for recreational activities."
Another student, Ankit Banerjee said, "I am using this time to solve sample question papers, leaving out the topics which has not been covered in class, as it helps in revision of the syllabus. This way I will be prepared on time well before the mock test."
However, councillors suggest that students should not sit in front of the book throughout the day. "While giving time to studies during vacations is very fruitful, this doesn't mean that students will not do anything else. Parents should assure that the child has enough time to refresh their minds otherwise their concentration level would decrease," said a students' councillor, Shikha Bajaj.
She added, "While the student should not be allowed to have fun throughout the day without studying, they should be given time outs in form of playing games in evening or going out with friends with friends, once in a while."
